Officers deliver baby girl on highway<\/p>\n
AUSTIN, Texas (KXAN) — Several Austin motorcycle officers helped
\ndelivery a baby during the morning drive time on Mo-Pac. Austin
\nmotorcycle officers Stephen Hines, Deats Burbank and James Morgan were
\nin the 2500 block of South Mo-Pac trying to assist a stalled motorist
\nwhen a van pulled up and the male driver frantically waved the
\nofficers over. The driver is deaf, but managed to communicate to
\nofficers this his deaf wife was about to give birth. <\/p>\n
The officers called Austin\/Travis-County EMS and Austin Fire
\nDepartment to respond to the scene. The baby had already crowned and
\nthe officers were able to safely deliver a baby girl. After a
\nsuccessful delivery, Officer Burbank removed his police jacket and
\ncovered the baby to keep her warm until EMS arrived. EMS transported
\nthe mother and baby to North Austin Medical Center where mother and
\nbaby are doing fine. <\/p>\n
The mother, Denise Egbert, was interviewed via a translator Thursday
\nafternoon. “I felt the baby’s head crown, I could feel the baby’s head
\ncome out,” said Egbert. “I told my husband pull over, pull over, any
\nplace you have to park and help.” <\/p>\n
“It really happened very fast,” said officer Stephan Hines. “From the
\ntime I got up to the car, the head was already out, as I mentioned.
\nAnd the baby was out within 15 seconds after that. So, it all happened
\nreally quick.” <\/p>\n
