My name is Chisom Ofomata and I am a current senior at Yale University majoring in the History of Science, Medicine, and Public Health. I am a Black deaf woman and intend to focus on this community for my senior thesis. The focus of my project is how the maternal health experiences of Black d/Deaf and Hard of Hearing (HOH) women evolved between 1980-2010.

Since there is a dearth of academic literature that focuses on this community, I am hoping to collect signed and oral histories from Black d/Deaf and HOH women who were pregnant sometime between 1980-2010. This process will entail two steps. First, we will meet for a non-recorded pre-interview where you can learn more about my project and ask any questions you may have regarding the interview. This step will ensure that you are informed about the signed/oral history process before we proceed. The next step will involve a recorded interview where I will ask questions and learn more about your experiences.
If you would feel comfortable participating and contributing to my project, please fill out this Google form ( https://forms.gle/Gis17Zz7gVoKDzwk9 ) or email chisom.ofomata@yale.edu

[ID: A light purple flyer with a medium-tone purple border.
