NAD Board Seeks Motivated Persons Who Want to Make a Difference <\/p>\n

The National Association of the Deaf (NAD) Board of Directors seeks
\nthe involvement of motivated and energetic persons who want to get
\ninvolved in the NAD \u2013 and help make a difference on behalf of the
\nAmerican deaf and hard of hearing community. <\/p>\n
Such volunteer involvement is sought for NAD Board standing
\ncommittees between now <\/p>\n
and the 2010 NAD Conference in Philadelphia, PA. Dialogue among
\ncommittee members is mostly through email and IM chat discussions (and
\nin between, via VP). <\/p>\n
Opportunities to Serve on Standing Committees: <\/p>\n
The NAD Board has five standing committees. Chairs for each of the
\ncommittees have been selected, as follows: <\/p>\n
Development \u2013 Julie Rems-Smario (California) <\/p>\n
Annual giving, bequests, endowments, grants, <\/p>\n
and special events <\/p>\n
Finance \u2013 Ronald Sutcliffe (Maryland, also Board Treasurer) <\/p>\n
Audit, budget, and investments* <\/p>\n
Governance \u2013 Christopher Wagner (Florida, also Board Vice
\nPresident) <\/p>\n
Bylaws, board policy, biennial conferences, <\/p>\n
leadership and regional conferences, state <\/p>\n
associations\/affiliates <\/p>\n
Membership \u2013 Margie English (District of Columbia) <\/p>\n
Benefits, marketing, and outreach <\/p>\n
Public Policy \u2013 Howard Rosenblum (Illinois) <\/p>\n
Bioethics, civil rights, education, international issues, <\/p>\n
media, mental health, and technology <\/p>\n

\nmakeadifference@nad.org
\n, explaining their interest, areas of expertise, and how they can
\ncontribute to a particular standing committee. The number of people on
\neach committee will vary, based on structure and tasks involved (with
\nbalance given to diverse backgrounds and expertise). *The Finance
\nCommittee is now at capacity; even so, the chair welcomes expressions
\nof interest. <\/p>\n
\ndeaf leaders who believed in the right of the American deaf community
\nto use sign language, to congregate on issues important to them, and
\nto have its interests represented at the national level. These beliefs
\nremain true to this day, with American Sign Language as a core value.
\nAs a nonprofit federation, the mission of the NAD is to preserve,
\nprotect, and promote the civil, human, and linguistic rights of deaf
\nand hard of hearing individuals in the United States of America. The
\nadvocacy scope of the NAD is broad, covering the breadth of a lifetime
\nand impacting future generations in the areas of early intervention,
\neducation, employment, health care, technology, telecommunications,
