NPR&#8217;s extensive<br \/>\nmultimedia coverage of the general election &#8212; which will include live<br \/>\nstreaming, blogging, interactive tools and mobile capability &#8212; will<br \/>\nbe anchored from NPR&#8217;s worldwide headquarters in Washington, D.C.,<br \/>\nwith reporters positioned with the campaigns and in more than two<br \/>\ndozen sites around the country. <\/p>\n<p>All coverage will be broadcast on NPR Member stations nationwide.<br \/>\nNPR&#8217;s Election Night coverage will also be streamed free and live from<br \/>\nwww.NPR.org and from the Web sites of many stations; for the first<br \/>\ntime, headlines and real-time returns will be available on wireless<br \/>\ndevices <\/p>\n<p>through NPR Mobile. <\/p>\n<p>In another first, NPR News&#8217; Election Night coverage will be<br \/>\naccessible to the deaf and hard-of-hearing through the first ever live<br \/>\ncaptioned radio broadcast. This historic broadcast will be coordinated<br \/>\nby an initiative of NPR, Harris Corporation and Towson University, and<br \/>\nwill use cutting-edge HD radio technology, developed by the three<br \/>\norganizations, to allow the deaf and hearing impaired to experience<br \/>\nNPR&#8217;s broadcast via scrolling text on specially-equipped receivers. <\/p>\n<p>The captioned NPR broadcast will be available live from 8:00PM to<br \/>\n11:00PM (ET) on www.NPR.org, and shown at viewing events at NPR&#8217;s<br \/>\nheadquarters in D.C., and at the NPR Member stations WGBH in Boston;<br \/>\nKCFR in Denver; and WTMD in Towson, MD. The broadcast is the latest<br \/>\nmove by the three organizations to make radio more accessible to the<br \/>\nmillions of sensory impaired individuals around the world. Throughout the night on-air and online, NPR will cover all<br \/>\nmajor national and regional results, updating its interactive election<br \/>\nmap at NPR.org as states are called; carry major candidates&#8217; speeches;<br \/>\nand provide political analysis and reaction. <\/p>\n<p>Two teams will anchor NPR&#8217;s broadcast: All Things Considered hosts<br \/>\nMichele Norris and Robert Siegel from 8:00PM to midnight (ET), and<br \/>\nScott Simon, host of Weekend Edition Saturday, and congressional<br \/>\ncorrespondent Debbie Elliot filling the anchors&#8217; chairs from midnight<br \/>\nto 5:00AM (ET). Joining the hosts will be members of NPR News&#8217;<br \/>\n&#8220;Election 2008&#8221; team, including correspondents Cheryl Corley, Don<br \/>\nGonyea and Scott Horsley at Obama and McCain campaign headquarters;<br \/>\nWhite House correspondent David Greene in Cleveland; and All Things<br \/>\nConsidered weekend host Andrea Seabrook in Columbus. NPR will also<br \/>\nreport from sites in Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Missouri,<br \/>\nNew Mexico, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Virginia. <\/p>\n<p>Providing analysis throughout the night will be NPR&#8217;s Washington<br \/>\neditor Ron Elving, national political correspondent Mara Liasson and<br \/>\npolitical editor Ken Rudin in D.C., and News &amp; Notes host Farai<br \/>\nChideya from NPR West in Culver City, CA. They will be joined by<br \/>\npolitical analysts Andy Kohut, president of the Pew Research Center;<br \/>\nE.J. Dionne, senior fellow at the Brookings Institution and columnist<br \/>\nfor the Washington Post; and Matt Continetti, staff writer for The<br \/>\nWeekly Standard.
