The Commission wants to hear from you to help improve accessibility
\nwithin the City of Fort Worth and to further develop an atmosphere
\nwhere people with disabilities and those who are Deaf or Hard of
\nHearing can participate and benefit as valued contributors. This is an
\nopportunity for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Community of all ages to
\ncommunicate with, educate and inform City officials whose decisions
\nimpact our daily lives. It may also become an example for other cities
\nto follow. Your help and participation are needed to make this work
\nfor all of us.<\/p>\n
BACKGROUND: <\/p>\n
On September 27, 2008, the City of Fort Worth held a meeting,
\ninviting all its citizens to attend and share their concerns and
\nsuggestions as Fort Worth looks towards the future and accessibility
\nfor all its citizens. Encouraged by all that took place at that
\nmeeting, The City of Fort Worth’s Human Relation Commission decided
\nthat it was important to meet with the Deaf and Hard of Hearing
\nCommunity. This meeting took place on October 28, 2008 and much was
\nlearned by the Commission and discussed with members of the Community.
\nThe meeting ended with the decision to hold a second meeting to learn
\nmore and discuss emergency needs and law enforcement issues. This
\nsecond meeting is scheduled on Tuesday, November 18th, at 5:30 PM, and
\nwill include Juan Ortiz, Emergency Management Coordinator for the City
\nof Fort Worth and Deputy Chief Ken Flynn of the Fort Worth police
\ndepartment will be presenting information to the Commission. This is
\nan opportunity for you to share your experiences, ideas, concerns and
\nsuggestions to improve accessibility for the Deaf community of Fort
\nWorth and for the citizens of Fort Worth in general. <\/p>\n
Sign language interpreters and CART services will be provided. This
\nagenda is included in this announcement. <\/p>\n
