FROM THE CREATOR, AMY MARTIN: <\/p>\n
Earth Rhythms is proud to announce a major upgrade in crew. The
\nSolstice Service part of the event from 7 to 9 pm is a complicated
\naffair set on three levels that features a cast of over 30 from
\nvarious fields of performance and copious audience participation. <\/p>\n
The service will now be guided by theatrical lighting and direction
\nprofessionals. It was formerly directed by Amy Martin, the event
\nwriter\/producer\/narrator. <\/p>\n
David Fisher, known for his work in theater and in the City of Dallas
\nOffice of Cultural Affairs, will be directing the service. <\/p>\n
Laura McMeley, who does lighting for the Dallas Opera and several
\ntheatres and organizations, will design and execute the lighting. <\/p>\n
As always, video of the event, done as a live three-camera shoot, is
\ndirected by Mary Beth Boehm of KERA, with video graphics by Scooter
\nSmith. <\/p>\n

The core ritual is now dubbed Cocoa Communion\u2026 Matt Willis,
\nbagpiper for the Kildaires, has joined the event\u2026 Lucy Mashua, a
\ntorture survivor and refugee from Kenya, will represent Africa in the
\n\u201cFour Corners of the Globe\u201d ceremony. <\/p>\n

~~~ The Event ~~~ <\/p>\n
Winter Solstice, the shortest day, the longest night, the time of
\ndeepest darkness, yet the moment when light returns again. Rich in
\nmetaphor and symbolism, it is considered the holiday first celebrated
\nby mankind. <\/p>\n
Step into this ancient tradition at Winter SolstiCelebration, the
\nsecond largest Winter Solstice event in the nation. Celebrate the
\ninterfaith peace that is possible when we return to the roots of human
\nfaith and spirituality, before dualism and the illusion of separation
\ntook hold. <\/p>\n
The metaphor and symbolism of Winter Solstice, the regenerative gift
\nof darkness and the redemptive power of light, are brought to life
\nthrough dance, storytelling, theater, poetry and music from opera to
\nfolk by a troupe of SolstiCelebrators who serve as both performers and
\nspiritual facilitators. Many compose original works especially for the
\nevent. <\/p>\n
Winter SolstiCelebration enthralls with participatory experiential
\nspirituality. Attendees laugh, sing and chant, meditate in darkness,
\ndo yoga, mudras and pranic breathing. People revel in the traditional
\nhowl and the drum-driven dance through the Sun and Moon gates that
\nconcludes the event. <\/p>\n
SolstiCelebrators this year will be exploring the theme that all
\npeople are Worthy, their performances forging a multi-faceted deep and
\nprofound, yet fun, expression. In the core ritual, audience members
\nparticipate in a Cocoa Communion. <\/p>\n
~~~ Additional Activities ~~~ <\/p>\n
6 and 7 pm ~ Get good parking and come early to enjoy the Cosmic
\nCarolers. Visit with the friars of the Order of St. Francis and St.
\nClare. Participate in Peace Zone activities. Peruse the World Bazaar
\nsilent auction. Interact with roving performers. Patronize the Earth
\nRhythms table. Enjoy music from prior SolstiCelebrations and Moonlady
\nFests. <\/p>\n
9 to 10 pm ~ After the main service is a Yule Fest with a snack feast
\nof nuts, vegetables, fruits and grains. Shop a spectrum of objects and
\njewelry in a World Bazaar silent auction. Get a picture with Father
\nWinter. Interact with roving characters. Dance to music by tao
\njonzin\u2019. Sing with the Cosmic Carolers. <\/p>\n

Healing Circle Yoga \u2013 The audience stretches, breathes and embodies
\nspirit while connecting with each other. Led by Tzivia Stein-Barrett
\nwith Rojelio Chapa. <\/p>\n
Naming of the Dead \u2013 A moment of remembering and honoring those
\nwho\u2019ve passed in the last year by standing and saying their names,
\nto assert their continuing worth in the community. <\/p>\n
Solstice Passage \u2013 A three-minute meditation in darkness,
\nsymbolizing the three-day Winter Solstice, followed by a symbolic
\nrebirth into the light using flashlights. Featuring sacred sound by
\nJodi Roberts and Cornell Kinderknecht. <\/p>\n
Cocoa Communion \u2013 Audience members affirm each other\u2019s worthiness
\nand present the gift of chocolate as a celebration communion. <\/p>\n
Dance Procession: Through the Gates into a New Year \u2013 To conclude
\nthe event, Drums not Guns creates a dance grove for the audience to
\ndance through the Sun and Moon gates and into a blessed new year. <\/p>\n
