“Last Night of Ballyhoo” on stage<\/p>\n
Lone Star College-CyFair\u2019s fall production of \u201cThe Last Night of
\nBallyhoo\u201d is a hilarious, poignant and endearing play for all ages.<\/p>\n
Playwright Alfred Uhry not only won a best play Tony for \u201cThe Last
\nNight of Ballyhoo,\u201d but he also won a Pulitzer Prize and an Oscar
\nfor \u201cDriving Miss Daisy.\u201d<\/p>\n
Set in Atlanta, Georgia in December 1939 when \u201cGone With the
\nWind\u201d is having its world premiere, Hitler is invading Poland, and
\nWWII is nigh, Atlanta\u2019s elitist German Jews are more concerned with
\nwho is going to Ballyhoo, the social event of the holiday season.
\nEspecially concerned is the Freitag family: bachelor Adolph, his
\nwidowed sister, Beulah (Boo) Levy, and their also widowed
\nsister-in-law, Reba. Will Boo succeed in snaring a husband, a member
\nof one of the finest Jewish families in the South, for her daughter
\nLala? Will Sunny, Lala\u2019s cousin, and Joe, Adolph\u2019s assistant,
\navoid the mass of prejudice that stand in their way? Will Lala ever
\nget to Ballyhoo?<\/p>\n
Ron Jones directs this charming and bittersweet romantic play in
\nwhich the Freitag family is pulled apart, only to be mended again with
\nplenty of comedy, romance and revelations along the way. Among the
\ncast members are guest artists Claire Hart-Palumbo, Randy Polk and
\nRebecca Tindel-Bivens. The cast also includes LSC-CyFair students Andy
\nCrum, Alexandra Gates, Matt Schulte and Jenna Simmons.<\/p>\n
Interpreting students from the college will be interpreting the
\nperformance at 3 p.m. Sunday, November 23rd. It will be held in the
\nMain Stage Theatre, located in the Center for the Arts building on the
\nBarker Cypress campus at 9191 Barker Cypress.<\/p>\n
Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and $5 for students w\/ID.
