When Cathy Edler-Ashley of Dallas submitted her resignation as vice
\npresident of the Texas Association of the Deaf (TAD) two weeks ago,
\nthe TAD board quickly took the necessary action as stipulated by the
\nTAD bylaws.<\/p>\n
Christopher Kearney, another Dallasite, agreed to replace Ms.
\nEdler-Ashley as vice president so that TAD can continue the major
\nreview of the bylaws. Prior to the board selection, Mr. Kearney served
\nas a six-year director of TAD, which is now vacant.<\/p>\n
The TAD board is pleased with the change and voted to defer the
\nselection of the new director to the membership during the 2009 TAD
\nconference in San Antonio. We are only several months away from the
\n45th biennial conference, thus the reason for letting the members
\nselect the new director who will serve four more years for TAD.<\/p>\n
In a letter to Ms. Edler-Ashley, President Steve Baldwin wrote,
\n\u201cYour board colleagues join me in wishing you the best of luck in
\nall your endeavors. Not least, we will miss you, your company, your
\nPacker devotion and your proactive leadership.\u201d Ms. Elder-Ashley is
\nmoving back to her home state Wisconsin to take care of her family.<\/p>\n
TAD is pleased to receive several interested inquiries about the
\nvacant board position. We hope the same kind of en thusiasm and
\nsupport will translate into more candidates for the 2009-2011
\nadministration at Holiday Inn\u2019s El Tropicano in San Antonio.<\/p>\n
TAD is a non-profit 501 (3) C organization that was established in
\n1886. There are about 650 members, including online E-newsletter
\nsubscribers at the end of 2008. TAD is an advocacy state association
\nand is affiliated with the National Association of the Deaf and the
\nCoalition of Texans with Disabilities. TAD has initiated many laws
\nlike American Sign Language, Relay Texas, TSD 51% board make-up,
\nCommission for the Ceaf, Southwest Collegiate Institute for the Deaf,
\nteacher certification, tuition waiver, and the founding of Texas
\nSociety of Interpreters for the Deaf.<\/p>\n
