East Austin Studio Tour full of diversity<\/p>\n

Austin is riddled with treasures and hidden gems. You don’t have to
\nlook far to find something that lives up to the city’s moniker, “Keep
\nAustin Weird.”<\/p>\n
Over the weekend, some of those gems of East Austin were on display.
\nThe works of hundreds of artists at 150 studios and galleries were the
\nfeature attractions at the East Austin Studio Tour.<\/p>\n
It was the seventh annual East Austin Studio Tour this past weekend
\nwhere East Austin’s vibrant art community was spotlighted, which
\nfeatured more than 200 local artist and more than 100 galleries.<\/p>\n
If you’re unfamiliar with the East Austin community, the tour offered
\na great way to capture a slice of life on the east side. It’s safe to
\nsay diversity was plentiful during the tour, too.<\/p>\n
Glass sculptor of Pump Project Art Complex, Joshua Green said he’s
\nalways been attracted to fire.<\/p>\n
“You get into sort of Zen state when you’re making these things,” he
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
Painter John Swanger said there’s something wildly intriguing about
\ncrumpling paper.<\/p>\n
“All of us crumple paper and throw it away \u2026 there’s something
\nrandom, organic about it,” he said.<\/p>\n
Photographer Sarah Wilson has been working on a project for the last
\nthree years with the Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired.
\nIn 2008 she was the prom photographer at the Texas School for the
\nDeaf.<\/p>\n
“There are so many artists in this community that are really talented
\nand there’s just a lot going on that you might not even know about,”
\nshe said.<\/p>\n
Artists say the East Austin Studio Tour is a chance for people to see
\nthe work but also offers a chance for dialogue between artists and the
\ncommunity.<\/p>\n
