Sordos has continued to provide quality employment services in the
\nAustin area. Due to current economic hardships and high unemployment
\nrates we have chosen to limit services to Austin and its surrounding
\nareas. Unemployment issues are affecting people across the country.
\nSordos is dedicated to breaking down barriers that prevent the Deaf
\nand Hard of Hearing from obtaining employment. We continue to build
\nnew relationships with Austin employers and are having much success in
\nplacing the Deaf and Hard of Hearing in competitive employment.<\/p>\n

Interpreting Services:
\nDue to high demand Sordos has expanded our interpreting services. We
\nare currently seeking highly qualified; certified Interpreters to work
\npart time in various educational, medical, legal and vocational
\nsettings. Interpreter interviews and paperwork will be completed every
\nFriday from 10am-3pm. Please contact April Garcia

The Deaf Community has a right and responsibility to request
\nqualified interpreters! If you have a complaint or concern regarding
\nyour rights for quality interpreting services please contact us. You

Sordos would like to thank the Deaf Community for your continued
\nsupport and requests for our reputable interpreters. As interpreting
\nservices continues to grow we are able to fund various programs such
\nas our Job Search Groups and Advocacy Services. Expect more services

Sign Language Classes:
\nBeginner level ASL classes are starting Tuesday January 8th. All
\ncourses are taught by experienced Deaf instructors. Classes will be
\nheld at our office every Tuesday evening from 6-8pm for a total of 6

Have you ever wanted to know what your baby\/toddler was wanting?
\nWanting to eliminate frustration? Sign Language has many benefits for
\nyoung children, deaf or hearing. Imagine your child able to tell you
\nwhen they’re hungry, thirsty, sleepy, hot or cold before they are able
\nto speak! Join our baby sign language classes! Baby sign language

Support your local Deaf Community:
\nSordos Empowerment is seeking furniture donations for a Deaf person
\nwho recently relocated from another country. He has absolutely no
\nfurniture and is living in a small apartment in Austin. If you have
\nanything to donate please contact Sue Winkles

\n. We also need volunteers to pick up and deliver furniture to the
\npersons residence.<\/p>\n
Sordos is creating a clothing closet for Deaf Consumers in our
\nvocational program and homeless Deaf Consumers served at Shoreline
\nChristian Centers East Campus. We are seeking donations for men’s and
\nwomen’s business casual and business professional clothing. We are
\nalso in need of khaki pants and polo shirts for Consumers placed in
\njobs which require a uniform. Please contact April Winkles-Garcia
