Support Group for those who communicate using sign language (newly
\nformed support group):<\/p>\n
If you feel lonely, hopeless, very sad, isolating yourself, crying
\ndaily, don\u2019t want to get up, sleep all day or not enough sleep, loss
\nof appetite, and possible other symptoms resulting in depression, then
\nperhaps you will consider joining this support group.<\/p>\n
(if you are having suicidal thoughts, please call someone immediately
\n\u2013 call 911)<\/p>\n
This support group is confidential and will remain anonymous. You do
\nnot need to share your name or anything with the group. You may decide
\nto just listen and not say anything. Listening to others share their
\nexperiences can help just as well.<\/p>\n

Recently, I have experienced severe depression. One important thing I
\nlearned to having a healthy, peaceful life is knowledge about
\ndepression. Depression is a chemical imbalance in the brain. \u201cThere
\nare chemicals in our brain (neurotransmitters) that help our brain
\ncells communicate with other cells. When there is an imbalance in
\nthese chemicals, our moods can be affected. Examples of
\nneurotransmitters include norepinephrine, serotonin, and dopamine.\u201d
\n(United Behavioral Health working Solutions Division)<\/p>\n
Depression can affect anyone. Although I am not a doctor nor am I a
\ncounselor or therapist, I can relate to the deep and dark level of
\ndepression. From this happening in my life, I wanted to start a
\nsupport group, particularly for those who are deaf, who want to gather
\ntogether and talk about our feelings. This support group would be to
\nlisten, encourage, and learn from each other how to survive this
\nillness. Everything expressed in this support group will remain
\nprivate and will stay IN the group. We need to trust others in the
\ngroup so we will continue to feel comfortable expressing our feelings.<\/p>\n

\u00b7 Medication AND Professional Counseling CAN help someone with this
\nillness<\/p>\n
\u00b7 Support Groups are for those who desire to share their feelings
\nabout this illness and connect with others who can understand how each
\nperson feels<\/p>\n
\u00b7 Many resources are available<\/p>\n
\u00b7 Learning about this illness WILL help understanding yourselves<\/p>\n
In the future, we will be inviting professionals to come and speak
\nwith our group.<\/p>\n
