2010-2011 Policy Recommendations for the Texas Governor’s Committee on
\nPeople with Disabilities<\/p>\n

We are pleased to release the 2010-2011 Policy Recommendations from
\nthe Texas Governor\u2019s Committee on People with Disabilities. The
\nCommittee’s mission is to further opportunities for persons with
\ndisabilities to enjoy full and equal access to lives of independence,
\nproductivity, and self-determination. <\/p>\n

The committee\u2019s work is guided by Chapter 115 of the Texas Human
\nResources code (http:\/\/tlo2.tlc.state.tx.us\/statutes\/hr.toc.htm
\n). <\/p>\n

The committee is made up of 12 appointed members, seven of whom have
\ndisabilities. The Governor\u2019s Committee on People with
\nDisabilities\u2019 staff collected 6,845 comments from people with
\ndisabilities, disability organizations, local mayor and county
\ncommittees, service providers, and businesses to formulate the
\nfollowing Goals and Recommendations. The staff also tracked research
\nand emerging trends to add to the public comments. The Committee
\nconsidered priorities of Texans with a wide variety of disabilities
\nincluding physical, mental, and sensory disabilities. These policy
\nrecommendations, drafted by the Committee members, are released for
\nthe public review and use during the 81st Legislative Session. Please
\nfeel free to distribute these recommendations to anyone who may be
\ninterested in them. Soon, we also will post the 2010-2011 Policy
\nRecommendations to our website.
