The<br \/>\nCommittee&#8217;s mission is to further opportunities for persons with<br \/>\ndisabilities to enjoy full and equal access to lives of independence,<br \/>\nproductivity, and self-determination. <\/p>\n<p>The committee\u2019s work is guided by Chapter 115 of the Texas Human<br \/>\nResources code (http:\/\/tlo2.tlc.state.tx.us\/statutes\/hr.toc.htm<br \/>\n). <\/p>\n<p>The committee is made up of 12 appointed members, seven of whom have<br \/>\ndisabilities. The Governor\u2019s Committee on People with<br \/>\nDisabilities\u2019 staff collected 6,845 comments from people with<br \/>\ndisabilities, disability organizations, local mayor and county<br \/>\ncommittees, service providers, and businesses to formulate the<br \/>\nfollowing Goals and Recommendations. The staff also tracked research<br \/>\nand emerging trends to add to the public comments. The Committee<br \/>\nconsidered priorities of Texans with a wide variety of disabilities<br \/>\nincluding physical, mental, and sensory disabilities. These policy<br \/>\nrecommendations, drafted by the Committee members, are released for<br \/>\nthe public review and use during the 81st Legislative Session. Please<br \/>\nfeel free to distribute these recommendations to anyone who may be<br \/>\ninterested in them.
