The training would empower you learn to<\/p>\n<p>self-advocate as a Deaf or Hard of Hearing individual. Here are the<\/p>\n<p>training dates and locations:<\/p>\n<p>Tuesday night, January 20, 2009<\/p>\n<p>6:30pm to 8:30pm<\/p>\n<p>Harris County Public Library \u2013 Barbara Bush Branch<\/p>\n<p>(Northern part of Houston area \u2013 Spring, TX)<\/p>\n<p>6817 Cypresswood Drive<\/p>\n<p>Spring, TX 77379<\/p>\n<p>(Key Map # 330R)<\/p>\n<p>OR<\/p>\n<p>Saturday afternoon, January 31, 2009<\/p>\n<p>1:30pm to 3:30pm<\/p>\n<p>Harris County Public Library \u2013 Spring Branch\/Memorial Branch<\/p>\n<p>(Western Central part of Houston area)<\/p>\n<p>930 Corbindale Road<\/p>\n<p>Houston, TX 77024<\/p>\n<p>(Key Map # 490C)<\/p>\n<p>The Speaker<\/p>\n<p>Brian Determan, the ASL-native deaf individual, serves as the<br \/>\nDeafness<\/p>\n<p>Resource Specialist 6B at Communication Axess Ability Group, funded<br \/>\nby<\/p>\n<p>DARS (Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services) &#8211; Office<br \/>\nfor<\/p>\n<p>Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services. He works with agencies and service<\/p>\n<p>providers regarding their access obligations under the Americans with<\/p>\n<p>Disabilities Act and the Rehabilitation Act. His training will<br \/>\nempower<\/p>\n<p>deaf or hard of hearing individuals with knowledge of their civil<br \/>\nrights<\/p>\n<p>and how to self-advocate.<\/p>\n<p>Accommodations for participants such as real time captioning<br \/>\n(C.A.R.T.)<\/p>\n<p>or sign to voice interpreter services must be requested by Monday,<\/p>\n<p>January 19, 2009 at 12 noon for January 20 training or by Wednesday,<\/p>\n<p>January 28, 2009 for January 31 training.
