Hello DAD Members and Friends, <\/p>\n
I hope you all had some wonderful time celebrating during the
\nholidays from the last two months. My family and I had a real nice
\nChristmas together. We were able to entertain ourselves with the new
\nWii game which my nephews received as a present. <\/p>\n
I want to praise Larry Campero, who chaired the Winter Holidays for
\nthe Children Party, for completing his commitment along his committee.
\nHe had so many volunteers which actually helped him to succeed his
\nsecond year, chairing the Winter Holidays for the Children Party. I
\nbelieve at least 100 children were able to receive two or three toys
\nafter their visit with Santa (Jimmy Cooksey, that’s if you were
\nwondering who that man was behind the beard, smile). I also want to
\nsay that I am proud of this committee for ensuring that all of the
\nchildren received at least two or three toys. <\/p>\n
We received the toys as a donation and the remaining toys were given
\nto the orphan children at Buckner Children and Family Service. From
\nwhat I understand, the Buckner Children Home was not able to get any
\ndonated toys for their children and our share of donated toys actually
\ninspired them. <\/p>\n
Volunteers on this committee were Albert & Sheri Jaramillo, Kent &
\nRita Reneau, Mitchel Bien, Kim Watts, Susan Lane, Sonjia Durate, David
\nNormand, Mark Phillips, Donna Lide, Cindi Nagy, Marianne Sasseen,
\nPreston Ashley, Jesse Carrizales, Maxine Satarino and Dallas Bass
\nAnglers of the Deaf members. <\/p>\n
Larry Campero decided to step down as the Chair of the Winter
\nHolidays for the Children. Donna Lide volunteered to step into his
\nspot. She has been with the committee for the past two years. I know
\nthat she will do an excellent job just like Larry did. Thank you,
\nLarry and Donna, and good luck. <\/p>\n
The Christmas Ornaments and Gifts Party had to be cancelled which was
\nan inconvenience to many of you. There was an expo held in Austin
\nwhere many of you were planning to attend. Yet, this hasn’t stop Maria
\nWalker, Chair, to schedule for 2009. If any of you are interested to
\nhelp with Maria, please contact her, joshfrog94@sbcglobal.net. <\/p>\n
The CINGO Christmas Dinner was a great turn out. Everyone was able to
\nenjoy their meal before the game. Preston Ashley took some time
\nteaching Cindi Nagy and Mitchel Bien how to use the power point for
\nCINGO. We are glad that they both are picking it up pretty well and
\nwill be able to continue this most popular long time favorite game by
\nmany of you. <\/p>\n
New Year Eve’s Party! Wow I was blown away that night. I admit I was
\n“out-of-shape” of being busy because I have been away for so long.
\nCongratulations goes to Cindi Nagy and Kent Reneau, co-chairs, of the
\nNYE party. We had approximately 300 people in and out of the clubhouse
\nthat evening. The food was great and plenty! Activities were awesome
\nand fun! I started with the Trivia Game for a little bit over an hour
\nwhich I am sure some of you learned some interesting facts. Then Bob
\nBarlow handled the dancing contest and apparently there were just too
\nmany good dancers that he and others couldn’t narrow down just TWO.
\nCece Garrett, Bernabas Bekele, Mentwab Dingdie and George Stanford won
\nthe dancing contest. <\/p>\n
Later in the evening, announcements were made about the Winners for
\nBest Homemade Hat and Best Dress. The winners for the hats were
\nChristian Nicolay and Susan Lane and the winners for Best Dress were
\nJanal Davis and Jose Luis. <\/p>\n
Volunteers were Ken Seabolt, Marianne Sasseen, Maxine Satarino, Laura
\nMoore, Orthea Nickleberry, Sheila Baxter, Bob Barlow, Susan Lane,
\nChristian Nicolay, Preston Ashley, Cathy Edler, David Normand, Mitchel
\nBien, Will Montonone, Anthony Jones, Darrell Cox, Jesse Carrizales,
\nJimmy Cooksey and Alfredo Gonzales. <\/p>\n
From the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU for volunteering your time in
\nhelping one or all of the DAD’s previous events. What a great
\nteamwork! <\/p>\n
DAD wants to apologize for having to cancel the move, “Legend of the
\nMountain Man” by ASL Films. There were some changes in the agreements
\nbetween the video relay services which led us into a dark spot. I do
\nhope that this movie will be re-scheduled sometime later this year for
\n0D <\/p>\n
you to come and watch. <\/p>\n
It’s now 2009 and a new year begins. It is time for me to release my
\npresidency. I want you all know that I had a wonderful “chapter” of
\nlife when Preston and I lived in Dallas area even though it was only
\nfor four years. We are proud that we were able to complete many things
\nwithin three years during our membership at DAD. The DAD Clubhouse is
\na beautiful place for Deaf\/HOH people to meet, socialize, and do many
\nthings together. We want you all to continue this after our departure.<\/p>\n
Please come to the General Members meeting Friday, January 23rd, at
\n7:30PM. We’ll have elections of new officers and board as well as a
\nregular meeting. Do come and show your support! <\/p>\n
And my friends, I will be at DAD for the annual Super Bowl Party on
\nFebruary 1, 2009! I hope many of you will come and visit us. Please do
\ncontact Preston Ashley, hdpreston42@yahoo.com or call DAD 214-522-0380
\nto count you in for meal on that day (sometime around 4:00 to 4:30pm).
\nIt will cost $10.00, and do bring a dish to share. Doors open at noon.<\/p>\n
