She<br \/>\nwalked into the loving arms of the Lord on February 13th after a long<br \/>\nillness. From humble beginnings in a rural Texas town as the child of<br \/>\nDeaf parents, Irma experienced the challenges faced by the Deaf and<br \/>\nHearing Impaired everyday. After years spent as an empowering advocate<br \/>\nfor the Deaf Community\u2014serving as a community interpreter, lobbying<br \/>\nCongress to improve rights for the Deaf and Hearing Impaired as well<br \/>\nas helping found the Knoxville Center of the Deaf\u2014Irma pioneered the<br \/>\nworld\u2019s first four year degree program for professional sign<br \/>\nlanguage interpreters at Maryville College serving as Assistant<br \/>\nProfessor of Sign Language Interpreting for a number of years<br \/>\nbeginning in 1974. She considered her service to the Deaf and Hearing<br \/>\nImpaired as a calling and lived to praise God with everything she did.<\/p>\n<p>She is preceded in death by her husband, Dewey W. Young, her parents,<br \/>\nMaurice and Minnie Secoy, and sister, Flora Moody. Irma will also be<br \/>\nmissed by Sons, Rev. Donald Kleeb (wife Paula) of Brandon, MS and<br \/>\nLarry Kleeb (wife Rosalie) of Tucson, AZ; Daughters, Janet Cheney<br \/>\n(husband Pete) and Vicki Nored of Knoxville, TN; and Step-Daughters,<br \/>\nLinda Rhea, Barbara Sherrod (husband Bud), and Jo Roy (husband Kelly)<br \/>\nof Knoxville, TN as well as Teresa Bunjan (husband Bob) of St. Louis,<br \/>\nMO; in addition to numerous nieces and nephews, 14 Grandchildren, 11<br \/>\nGreat-Grandchildren, and her devoted dog Charlie.<\/p>\n<p>Services will take place on Friday February 20th at First Baptist<br \/>\nConcord with the receiving of friends from 5-7pm and a \u201cCelebration<br \/>\nof Life\u201d service to follow. In lieu of flowers, please make<br \/>\ncontributions to The Knoxville Center of the Deaf (3731 Martin Mill<br \/>\nPike Knoxville, TN 37920), First Baptist Concord (11704 Kingston Pike<br \/>\nKnoxville, TN 37934), and the Sign Language Interpreter Degree Program<br \/>\nat Maryville College (Office of Advancement 502 E.
