The National Education Association honored Dr. Suess’ legacy by
\nholding Read Across America Day. The children’s book author would have
\ncelebrated his 105th birthday Monday.<\/p>\n

At the Texas School for the Deaf, students lounged around in their
\npajamas, with signed story telling.<\/p>\n

The program is called ABC ASL (American Sign Language), and is not
\njust for the hearing impaired.<\/p>\n

“He goes around to different schools in the AISD
\nwith hearing students, and exposes them to sign language and how he
\ncan bring the books, they come alive,” Mindy Moore with ABC ASL said.
\n“And the children understand through the body language, through
\ngestures, through pictures.”<\/p>\n

ABC ASL is a nonprofit program sponsored by the City of Austin.<\/p>\n
