He was born in Rotan, Fisher County, Texas to<br \/>\nGrover C. Carter and Mary Ruth Carter. He attended Texas School for<br \/>\nthe Deaf in Austin, Texas and Harrison Chillhowee Baptist Academy in<br \/>\nKnoxville, Tennessee.<\/p>\n<p>He spend most of his youth in Dallas Texas where he worked for Haggar<br \/>\nCorporation and performed as an actor in a number of plays for<br \/>\nnational and local theatre of the deaf.<\/p>\n<p>He moved to Los Angeles in 1990 and worked at the AIDS Education of<br \/>\nthe Deaf for the Greater Los Angeles Agency on Deafness. Later he was<br \/>\nemployed as a Residential Property Manager for 17 years. He served on<br \/>\nLos Angeles County Commission on HIV and was an American Sign Language<br \/>\nInstructor for Disability Rights Legal Center (DRLC). Last year, he<br \/>\nrelocated to San Diego where he became a supporter of the Youth<br \/>\nHousing Project through SDLBGT Community Center and Deaf Services<br \/>\nCenter of San Diego.<\/p>\n<p>He was preceded in death by his father Grover C. Carter, a survivor<br \/>\nof the sinking of USS Indianapolis C-35 on July 30, 1945. He is<br \/>\nsurvived by his loving daughter Kami Jennifer Carter and her partner<br \/>\nBeth of Kamuela, Hawaii; his mother Mary Ruth; stepfather Carl Tucker;<br \/>\nsister Gwen White and husband Mike; nephews, Sean and Kyle White and<br \/>\nfamilies of Dallas, Texas; cousin Robert Carter of Houston, Texas; and<br \/>\na large extended family. Charles leaves loving friends; David, Andrew,<br \/>\nAngela, Billy, Byron, Christina, Jim, Kevin, Richard, Roxanne, Shari,<br \/>\nScott, Tim, Vicki, and countless close friends across the country.<\/p>\n<p>Celebration of Life of Charles David Carter<\/p>\n<p>Thursday, March 26, 2009 at 3:00 PM<\/p>\n<p>Coronado Beach<\/p>\n<p>1700 Silver Strand Blvd<\/p>\n<p>San Diego, CA<\/p>\n<p>(On the beach at the end of Avenida Del Sol)<\/p>\n<p>In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his<br \/>\nname to:<\/p>\n<p>GLAD &#8211; AIDS Education Services for the Deaf, Los Angeles and\/or Being<br \/>\nAlive, San Diego.<\/p>\n<p>==<\/p>\n<p>March 22, 2009<\/p>\n<p>We regret to inform you that Charles David Carter passed away<br \/>\npeacefully at his home in San Diego early yesterday afternoon.
