Click on \u201cApply to this job.\u201d Questions regarding<br \/>\nSTAP services can be sent to stap@dars.state.tx.us<\/p>\n<p>Job Description: <\/p>\n<p>The Specialized Telecommunications Assistance Program (STAP)<br \/>\nAdministrative Assistant is hired by and is accountable to the<br \/>\nDirector and reports to the STAP Specialist main point of contact and<br \/>\nperforms complex (journey-level) administrative support and technical<br \/>\nprogram assistance work. Work involves processing STAP applications,<br \/>\nissuing follow-up letters and vouchers, disseminating information,<br \/>\nmaintaining confidential filing systems, data entry and performing<br \/>\ninternal administrative support work. Work involves providing<br \/>\ntechnical support in the overall operations of the program. Duties<br \/>\ninclude: processing STAP applications; updating consumer files with<br \/>\ncurrent information; issuing of vouchers for the exchange of<br \/>\nequipment; providing consultative services and technical assistance to<br \/>\ngeneral public, staff, governmental agencies, or community<br \/>\norganizations, and training others. Works under general supervision<br \/>\nwith moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent<br \/>\njudgment. May train others. Performs other duties as assigned.<\/p>\n<p>Essential Job Functions: <\/p>\n<p>Reviews and verifies consumer telecommunications equipment<br \/>\napplications, performs complex typing, word processing and data entry;<br \/>\nto process those applications; may involve follow up inquiries to<br \/>\nconsumers. (60%) Performs technical assistance work for the program<br \/>\nresponding to consumer and general public inquiries about status of<br \/>\napplications and technical inquiries regarding program regulations,<br \/>\npolicies and procedures. (15%) Prepares and disseminates information<br \/>\non the program and its procedures. (5%) Conducts presentations<br \/>\nrelative to the program for consumer and general public. (5%) Primary<br \/>\ntelephone work answering office telephone, routing calls to all staff<br \/>\nwithin the office.. (10%) Performs related work as assigned. (5%)<\/p>\n<p>Knowledge Skills Abilities: <\/p>\n<p>High school diploma or GED, graduation from an accredited four-year<br \/>\ncollege or university with major course work in a field related to<br \/>\nprogram area preferred. Minimum two (2) to three (3) years<br \/>\nprogressively responsible experience in general office practices and<br \/>\nadministrative support. Experience in providing telecommunications<br \/>\nservices to individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing or to<br \/>\nindividuals with other disabilities which interfere with telephone<br \/>\naccess preferred. Experience in working with a variety of specialized<br \/>\nequipment that is used for accessing the telephone networks preferred.<br \/>\nEducation and experience may be substituted, one for another, on a<br \/>\nyear for year basis General to Considerable Knowledge: of report and<br \/>\nrecord maintenance principles and practices; of modern office<br \/>\npractices and procedures. Knowledge of office management principles<br \/>\nand practices and administrative procedures. Knowledge of assistive<br \/>\ntelecommunications technology for individuals who are deaf, hard of<br \/>\nhearing, speech impaired or with other disabilities preferred. Skill<br \/>\nin: using a computer keyboard for word processing and data entry<br \/>\nrequired; in writing professional reports and in making presentations.<br \/>\nAbility to: provide services to individuals who are deaf, hard of<br \/>\nhearing, speech impaired or with other disabilities preferred; and to<br \/>\ncommunicate effectively in writing. Ability to respond to telephone<br \/>\ncalls and provide information as needed. Ability to communicate using<br \/>\nAmerican Sign Language is preferred<\/p>\n<p>Legistration or Licensure Requirements: N\/A<\/p>\n<p>Initial Selection Criteria: <\/p>\n<p>1. Education- High school diploma =1, Post secondary course work +1,<br \/>\nBachelor&#8217;s Degree +2, Master&#8217;s +3 2. Experience (minimum) 3 yrs.<br \/>\nProgressively responsible experience in general office<br \/>\npractices\/administrative procedures =1, add 1 point for each<br \/>\nadditional year max=3 3.
