Deafness Resource Specialist (Lubbock, Texas)<\/p>\n

Position Description:<\/p>\n

The Deafness Resource Specialist is responsible for connecting the
\ndeaf and hard of hearing consumers with appropriate human service
\nproviders within the appropriate region of responsibility. In
\naddition, the Regional Specialist will provide information and
\ntraining to service providers to enhance & culturally appropriate
\nservices by acting as a resource center.<\/p>\n

Essential Functions:<\/p>\n

Serve as a liaison between the deaf and hard of hearing consumers and
\nthe<\/p>\n

service providers (i.e. state agencies, nonprofit service providers,
\ncity and<\/p>\n

county offices, federal agencies, law enforcement agencies, courts,
\nschool<\/p>\n

systems, institutions of higher education, private businesses,
\nservice<\/p>\n

organizations etc)<\/p>\n

Identify referral needs of consumer and provide training information
\nto service<\/p>\n

providers<\/p>\n

Contact the resources and provide referral information, as well as,
\nculturally<\/p>\n

appropriate programming information<\/p>\n

Attend deaf and hard of hearing meetings, conduct hall meetings, and
\none on one<\/p>\n

meeting(s) to assess needs<\/p>\n

Develop a good understanding on how the state agencies and other
\nhuman service<\/p>\n

providers work in Texas and with the system.<\/p>\n

Knowledge of ADA and federal\/state laws required<\/p>\n

Knowledge of IDEA, Early Childhood Intervention regulations,
\nCertificate of<\/p>\n

Deafness which may be used for a tuition waver to a state supported<\/p>\n

post-secondary school in Texas and the STAP program.<\/p>\n

Knowledge of vocational rehabilitation regulations and procedures<\/p>\n

Outreach to identify new consumers<\/p>\n

Track consumer satisfaction regarding referrals and follow-up
\naccordingly<\/p>\n

Maintain DB1 reports<\/p>\n

Other duties as assigned<\/p>\n

Qualifications:<\/p>\n

* Bachelor degree in related human service field or equivalent
\nexperience required<\/p>\n

* Must be able to communicate effectively with deaf and hard of
\nhearing individuals and demonstrate the ability to advocate the rights
\nof these individuals.<\/p>\n

* Must have knowledge of telecommunication equipment devices for deaf
\nand hard of hearing consumers<\/p>\n

* Ability to effectively foster good public relations within the
\ncommunity.<\/p>\n

* Knowledge of deaf culture and resources related to deafness<\/p>\n

*Experience and skills in making public publications<\/p>\n

* Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows software (Word, Excel,
\nPowerPoint, Outlook)<\/p>\n

* Must have own transportation and be willing to travel<\/p>\n

Note this is an extended year contract-funded position covering a
\nregional service area of which travel is required.<\/p>\n
