In<br \/>\naddition, the Regional Specialist will provide information and<br \/>\ntraining to service providers to enhance &amp; culturally appropriate<br \/>\nservices by acting as a resource center.<\/p>\n<p>Essential Functions:<\/p>\n<p>Serve as a liaison between the deaf and hard of hearing consumers and<br \/>\nthe<\/p>\n<p>service providers (i.e. state agencies, nonprofit service providers,<br \/>\ncity and<\/p>\n<p>county offices, federal agencies, law enforcement agencies, courts,<br \/>\nschool<\/p>\n<p>systems, institutions of higher education, private businesses,<br \/>\nservice<\/p>\n<p>organizations etc)<\/p>\n<p>Identify referral needs of consumer and provide training information<br \/>\nto service<\/p>\n<p>providers<\/p>\n<p>Contact the resources and provide referral information, as well as,<br \/>\nculturally<\/p>\n<p>appropriate programming information<\/p>\n<p>Attend deaf and hard of hearing meetings, conduct hall meetings, and<br \/>\none on one<\/p>\n<p>meeting(s) to assess needs<\/p>\n<p>Develop a good understanding on how the state agencies and other<br \/>\nhuman service<\/p>\n<p>providers work in Texas and with the system.<\/p>\n<p>Knowledge of ADA and federal\/state laws required<\/p>\n<p>Knowledge of IDEA, Early Childhood Intervention regulations,<br \/>\nCertificate of<\/p>\n<p>Deafness which may be used for a tuition waver to a state supported<\/p>\n<p>post-secondary school in Texas and the STAP program.<\/p>\n<p>Knowledge of vocational rehabilitation regulations and procedures<\/p>\n<p>Outreach to identify new consumers<\/p>\n<p>Track consumer satisfaction regarding referrals and follow-up<br \/>\naccordingly<\/p>\n<p>Maintain DB1 reports<\/p>\n<p>Other duties as assigned<\/p>\n<p>Qualifications:<\/p>\n<p>* Bachelor degree in related human service field or equivalent<br \/>\nexperience required<\/p>\n<p>* Must be able to communicate effectively with deaf and hard of<br \/>\nhearing individuals and demonstrate the ability to advocate the rights<br \/>\nof these individuals.<\/p>\n<p>* Must have knowledge of telecommunication equipment devices for deaf<br \/>\nand hard of hearing consumers<\/p>\n<p>* Ability to effectively foster good public relations within the<br \/>\ncommunity.<\/p>\n<p>* Knowledge of deaf culture and resources related to deafness<\/p>\n<p>*Experience and skills in making public publications<\/p>\n<p>* Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows software (Word, Excel,<br \/>\nPowerPoint, Outlook)<\/p>\n<p>* Must have own transportation and be willing to travel<\/p>\n<p>Note this is an extended year contract-funded position covering a<br \/>\nregional service area of which travel is required.<\/p>\n<p>Salary: Commensurate with experience and qualifications<\/p>\n<p>Application Deadline: Until filled<\/p>\n<p>Send online application, resume and cover letter to:<\/p>\n<p>Cindy Shuck<\/p>\n<p>Human Resources<\/p>\n<p>Communication Service for the Deaf<\/p>\n<p>102 North Krohn Place, Sioux Falls SD 57103<\/p>\n<p>(800) 642-6410 or (605) 367-5760 Voice<\/p>\n<p>(605) 782-8454 FAX<\/p>\n<p>cshuck@c-s-d.org<\/p>\n<p>An alcohol and drug-free equal opportunity employer<\/p>\n<p>Website: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.c-s-d.org\">http:\/\/www.c-s-d.org<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Deafness Resource Specialist (Lubbock, Texas) Position Description: The Deafness Resource Specialist is responsible for connecting the deaf and hard of hearing consumers with appropriate human service providers within the appropriate region of responsibility.
