\u201cLocal Elections are Important!\u201d<\/p>\n
Your vote is your voice. Let it be heard.<\/p>\n
The second Voting Workshop for People with disAbilities and Special
\nNeeds is organized to provide information and training for the purpose
\nof getting more people living with disAbilities and special needs
\nvoting in all elections. Voting is the one communication, which
\nclearly speaks to representatives and decision makers who develop
\npolicies, which affect our daily lives. Meeting and talking with
\nrepresentatives and candidates may provide that opportunity needed for
\npeople living with disAbilities and special needs to be included in
\nbudgets and procedures that lead to access to services and jobs,
\ntechnologies that improve quality of life, and an infrastructure which
\nis inclusive and provides access for all.<\/p>\n
The May local elections are an opportunity for people living with
\ndisAbilities and special needs to become involved \u2013 to vote. In just
\nTarrant County, there are 39 entities conducting elections. That
\nincludes 12 school districts and 27 cities. See the Speakers Page at
\nblog site, http:\/\/yourvotecountsp2.wordpress.com, for a list of
\nrepresentatives and candidates. Some include links to their websites
\nthrough which you can contact them. We will do our best to provide
\nnames of candidates in the other cities and school districts and their
\nwebsites, if available, in the coming days. We ask that you pass this
\ninformation along to people who can benefit from voting training and
\nattend with them.<\/p>\n
The voting workshop is an educational event for everyone. People
\nliving with disAbilities learn about voting. Representatives and
\ncandidates learn about an important constituency. Friends and family
\nlearn how important their support is in this effort. There\u2019s a lot
\nof learning to go around for every one. Join us.<\/p>\n
* Learn about the Importance of Voting, Voting Rights, Voting Laws,
\nand the Voting Process from Registration to Early Voting.<\/p>\n
* Learn what it takes to be a Poll Worker.<\/p>\n
* Meet and talk with representatives and candidates.<\/p>\n
* Experience voting in the Mock Voting Demonstration! Voting machines
\nare supplied by the Tarrant County Elections Center.<\/p>\n
* Learn about services, programs, products and new technologies from
\nnon-profit organizations, government agencies and businesses in the
\nexhibit area.<\/p>\n
* Sign up for the Tarrant County Election Center Tour at 2:00 PM
\nApril 4, 2009!<\/p>\n
* Register to vote!<\/p>\n
* Bring family and friends. It\u2019s free!<\/p>\n
* Sign for drawings sponsored by Krown Manufacturing Inc and New Life
\nMedical Equipment Inc. There will be two (2) drawings each for a
\n$25.00 Visa Gift Card, to be used wherever Visa is accepted. Those who
\nregister and attend the training are eligible to participate.<\/p>\n
