This hiring<br \/>\ninitiative offers a unique opportunity for individuals with<br \/>\ndisabilities who may want to get a job with SSA. These jobs will be at<br \/>\nvarious skill levels including a number of entry-level positions.<\/p>\n<p>SSA will be holding a national teleconference on this issue<br \/>\nspecifically for Employment Networks, State Vocational Rehabilitation<br \/>\nStaff and others who help people with disabilities go to work on<br \/>\nTuesday, April 21, 2009 from 1:00 to 2:30 PM EST. This session will<br \/>\nbuild upon an earlier Webinar and provide more details regarding the<br \/>\ninitiative. A guest speaker from the Equal Employment Opportunity<br \/>\nCommission will also discuss the Schedule A Hiring Authority. Please<br \/>\nvisit www.cessi.net\/ttw to register for the teleconference.<\/p>\n<p>What kinds of jobs is SSA offering?<\/p>\n<p>SSA is recruiting employees to work in field offices and teleservice<br \/>\ncenters where they will assist the public by phone and in person with<br \/>\na wide variety of program related activities such as filing claims,<br \/>\napplying for new or replacement Social Security cards and other types<br \/>\nof inquiries. SSA also is recruiting employees to work in Program<br \/>\nService Centers where they will process claims and to work in hearings<br \/>\noffices in legal and paralegal positions.<\/p>\n<p>Where are these jobs located?<\/p>\n<p>All across the United States; for example, some are in the 1,300<br \/>\nlocal SSA field offices or SSA hearings offices, some in the 37<br \/>\nteleservice centers nationwide, some in SSA\u2019s 6 program service<br \/>\ncenters and some at SSA headquarters in the Baltimore area.<\/p>\n<p>How will SSA recruit?<\/p>\n<p>SSA will use a variety of avenues to recruit and hire people with<br \/>\ndisabilities. In particular, the Agency is reaching out to Ticket to<br \/>\nWork Ticket Holders who are trying to return to work, veterans with<br \/>\ndisabilities through programs such as the Wounded Warrior transitional<br \/>\nprogram, and students with disabilities. Many individuals with<br \/>\ndisabilities will qualify for consideration under a special placement<br \/>\nauthority called \u201cSchedule A.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>How can I tell if an individual is eligible for Schedule A?<\/p>\n<p>A person is Schedule A eligible if s\/he has documentation<br \/>\nestablishing both a disability and \u201cjob readiness.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Who can provide this documentation?<\/p>\n<p>o Proof of a disability can be provided by a licensed medical<br \/>\nprofessional or any Federal agency, state agency, or agency of the<br \/>\nDistrict of Columbia or a US territory that issues or provides<br \/>\ndisability benefits.
