Trilingual Interpreter Training<\/p>\n
This training, May 31-June 5, 2009, will focus on intensive<\/p>\n
sign-to-voice and voice-to-sign trilingual interpreting and will
\nprovide<\/p>\n
an environment in which participants can stretch their interpreting<\/p>\n
horizons and explore new approaches in this specialty area. A highly<\/p>\n
qualified staff will conduct the training and will include expert<\/p>\n
trainers in Spanish interpreting and trilingual interpreting.
\nTrilingual<\/p>\n
instructors include Gina Gonzalez and Carmen Garcia. Spanish to
\nEnglish<\/p>\n
instructors include Adriana Guevara and Jorge Dieppa.<\/p>\n
Having current Texas BEI, RID\/NIC, or NAD certification is
\nrecommended.<\/p>\n
BEI and RID CEUs will be offered. All participants will be screened
\nfor<\/p>\n
knowledge of Spanish and those without interpreter certification will
\nbe<\/p>\n
screened for interpreting skills. DHHS staff will contact potential<\/p>\n
participants as soon as registration is received to schedule
\nscreening.<\/p>\n

This training is limited to 40 participants and pre-registration is<\/p>\n
required. Potential participants should arrive at the Southwest<\/p>\n
Collegiate Institute for the Deaf (SWCID), 3200 Avenue C, Big Spring,<\/p>\n
Texas on Sunday, May 31, between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. after which dinner<\/p>\n
will be served. Introductions and an orientation session will follow.<\/p>\n
The training sessions will be held June 1-5 from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
\ndaily.<\/p>\n
Big Spring can be reached via the Midland-Odessa Airport.<\/p>\n
Airport-to-campus transportation is available for a reasonable fee.
\nThe<\/p>\n
cost for the training is $250, this includes room and meals will be<\/p>\n
provided by SWCID.<\/p>\n
Only individuals who can participate for the entire week will be<\/p>\n
considered for this intensive training. Participants are expected to
\nbe<\/p>\n
on time for all sessions and commit to giving 100% of their time and<\/p>\n
energy to this activity. If a participant misses any of the sessions,<\/p>\n
this will result in forfeiture of CEUs and certificate of completion
\nfor<\/p>\n
the course.<\/p>\n
