We at the Governor\u2019s Committee on People with Disabilities would
\nlike to remind you about a few things coming up soon that you and your
\ncommunity will want to know about.<\/p>\n
First, remember that the Barbara Jordan Media Awards for print and
\nvideo productions released in 2008 will be awarded to the winners in
\nthe Awards Luncheon coming up on June 12. The Arlington Mayor\u2019s
\nCommittee on People with Disabilities will host the event, which will
\nbe held at the newly opened Cowboys Stadium in Arlington. In fact,
\nours will be one of the first events to take place in the stadium! As
\nan added bonus, the Cowboys folks have offered a tour of the stadium
\nfacilities for participants to take place immediately after the
\nluncheon. For more information, ticket prices, and a list of the Award
\nwinners, visit the Arlington Mayor\u2019s Committee web site at

Second, please help us keep an eye out for nominations for the
\nBarbara Jordan Media Awards for 2009. Any print, video, or radio
\nproduction involving a person with a disability is eligible, and we
\nencourage nominations from any source, including self-nominations.
\nThese awards are a wonderful way to ensure that the general public
\nbecomes more aware of disability issues, including disability
\netiquette and respectful portrayals of people with disabilities. For

Also, keep in mind that the 2008-09 Employment Awards submission
\ndeadline is coming up soon \u2013 June 30. These are important in the
\ncommunity also to encourage awareness and respect for disability
\nissues in the workplace. There are several categories, including the
\nEntrepreneur Award (for a business owner with a disability) and the
\nGovernor\u2019s Award (for a Local Committee that has exhibited exemplary
