Winners Named in National Math Competition at RIT\/NTID<\/p>\n
Rochester, N.Y. – More than 90 students with hearing loss from 13
\nstates participated in the RIT Math Competition for Students with
\nHearing Loss. The competition, featuring MATHCOUNTS problems, was held
\nApril 4 at the National Technical Institute for the Deaf on the RIT
\ncampus in Rochester, New York.<\/p>\n
This competition \u2013 specifically for middle school students who are
\ndeaf or hard of hearing \u2013 is designed to promote math as fun and
\nengaging.<\/p>\n
The competition had three rounds that tested speed, accuracy,
\nteamwork and additional \u201cmathletic\u201d skills. All winners received a
\nplaque and trophy; first-place winners also received $100;
\nsecond-place winners received $75 and third-place winners received
\n$50.<\/p>\n

\nBen-Moshe, John McClymond and Chad Cummings).<\/p>\n
\u2022 Second place: Haggard Middle School, Plano, Texas (Vivian Chen,
\nCasey Lyon, Sam Bowerman and Margaret Teague).<\/p>\n
\u2022 Third place: Venado Middle School, Irvine, Calif. (Ted Zoerner,
\nTyler Pugeda and Carly Zwick).<\/p>\n

MATHCOUNTS is a national enrichment, coaching and competition program
\nthat promotes middle school mathematics achievement through grassroots
\ninvolvement in every U.S. state and territory. This competition was
\npartially underwritten by a generous grant from the Sprint Foundation.<\/p>\n
