As you have undoubtedly heard, there have been several confirmed
\ncases (66 nationwide at this time, including one death in Texas) of
\nswine flu in the U.S. As health experts around the world seek to
\nbetter understand the scope and severity of the swine flu outbreak, we
\nthought it would be useful to share some basic facts about the flu
\nwith you.<\/p>\n
About Swine Flu:<\/p>\n
Swine flu is caused by Type A influenza and is a respiratory disease
\nin pigs. Humans can become infected with the virus by coming into
\ncontact with humans or pigs carrying swine flu.<\/p>\n
Symptoms:<\/p>\n
Those infected may experience flu-like symptoms such as lethargy,
\nlack of appetite, cough, runny nose, fever, muscle aches, and
\nsometimes nausea and vomiting.<\/p>\n
It is important to note that you cannot get swine flu from eating
\npork that is cooked to the recommended temperature of 160 degrees.<\/p>\n
Treatment:<\/p>\n
If you are not feeling well, stay home and avoid contact with others.
\nPlease also be sure to visit your doctor as soon as possible. If
\ncaught within the first 48 hours, medications such as Tamiflu and
\nRelenza can decrease the time of illness and lessen the symptoms. It
\nis also important for the doctor to make sure it is not another
\nillness such as pneumonia, strep throat, etc.<\/p>\n
Prevention:<\/p>\n
To lower your risk of getting the flu, or any other virus, you
\nshould:<\/p>\n
\u00b7 Avoid people who are ill<\/p>\n
\u00b7 Wash your hands frequently and thoroughly with soap and water<\/p>\n
\u00b7 Cover your mouth with a tissue when coughing, then properly
\ndispose of the tissue in a trash receptacle<\/p>\n
\u00b7 Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth<\/p>\n
What You Can Do:<\/p>\n
For now, stay healthy and stay informed. It is always a good idea to
\npractice good health habits, eat a balanced diet, exercise on a
\nregular basis, get plenty of rest and practice good hygiene.<\/p>\n

\nPrevention contain a wealth of information regarding the flu\u2019s
