RIT ANNOUNCES CAMP FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS WITH HEARING LOSS <\/p>\n
ROCHESTER, N.Y. \u2014African-American, Latino American and Native
\nAmerican students with hearing loss who are entering 7th, 8th, or 9th
\ngrade are invited to Steps to Success, a career exploration mini-camp
\nAugust 7 \u2013 9 at Rochester Institute of Technology\u2019s National
\nTechnical Institute for the Deaf. <\/p>\n
The weekend camp invites students to explore career options that can
\nhelp prepare them for life after high school. Participants work with
\nexperienced counselors and instructors who use both English and sign
\nlanguage, to construct robots, perform science experiments in
\nhigh-tech labs, and more. Students will stay in residence halls, get a
\ntaste of life on campus, and meet other students from around the
\ncountry. <\/p>\n
Parents or guardians are encouraged to stay for the weekend and can
\nget tips to support their student through this time of transition, as
\nwell as share experiences and information with other parents of
\nstudents with hearing loss.<\/p>\n
The cost for students is $50 for the weekend and includes housing,
\nmeals and activities. Limited scholarships are available based on
\nfinancial need.<\/p>\n
