A public meeting will be conducted to gain Stakeholder input
\nregarding the DARS Sunset Self-Evaluation Report (SER) on:<\/p>\n
Thursday, July 9, 2009<\/p>\n
4:00 p.m. \u2013 6:30 p.m.<\/p>\n

Sunset is a periodic assessment of a State agency that asks the basic
\nquestion: Should a state agency be continued? The Texas Sunset
\nAdvisory Commission conducts an evaluation and makes recommendations
\nto the legislature to continue, change or abolish an agency\u2019s
\nmission or operations.<\/p>\n
The DARS Sunset review will begin this summer and continue through
\nthe 82nd legislative session. Upon completion of the agency assessment
\nthe Sunset Advisory Commission will hold a public meeting then make
\nrecommendations to the 82nd legislature for review. If the legislature
\ndecides to continue the agency, a bill will be filed that extends the
\nagency\u2019s operations for up to 12 years and makes any legislative
\nmodifications.<\/p>\n
Part of the review process is an agency Self-Evaluation Report, which
\nidentifies strengths, weaknesses, issues and concerns for
\nconsideration during the Sunset review. The DARS SER is currently
\nunder development and upon completion will be posted on the agency
\nwebsite for review.<\/p>\n
Public comment on an agency\u2019s performance and suggestions for
\nimprovement are critical throughout the Sunset review process.<\/p>\n
