Please, allow me to introduce myself: my name is Tamer M
Mahmoud. I am the current Pre College Outreach Specialist for the NTID
Pre College Outreach department. We specialize in hosting various
programs that targets middle school and high school deaf and hard of
hearing students from across the country. Such programs are: Math
Competition featuring MATHCOUNTS problems, Science Fair, Digital Arts,
Film and Animation Contest, Writing Competition and many more. We are
also hosting three additional programs this summer: EYF, Tech Girlz
and Steps to Success.

My focus is Steps to Success – it’s a summer camp program that
take place August 7-9, 2009 that invites African American, Native
American, Latinos and Asian deaf and hard of hearing students who are
entering 7th, 8th and 9th grade in the fall. It’s an opportunity for
them to meet peer students and learn about what can be done with their
future.

What make this program even more unique is that the summer camp does
not focus only on students but the parents as well. We offer workshops
and activities in which they can learn about what they can do about
their children’s future!

For more information, you can read the brochure that I have included
in the attachment or can visit our website at:
http://www.ntid.rit.edu/prospective/steps/

You can also contact me directly for any questions or concerns.

Let me take a moment to explain the cost and the content of the
program:

For students, the cost is only $50 for the entire weekend starting
Friday, August 7th in the afternoon until Sunday, August 9th in the
afternoon as well. It will cover all lodging, meals, classes and
activities within our programs. The only expenses that the students
will be responsible for is transportation in getting to Rochester, NY
so they can have the opportunity to participate, to meet their peer
and learn how realistically their future are within their grasp.

HOWEVER, if transportation or financial burden become an issue, we
offer limited scholarship which can help in more ways than one!

For parents/guardian, the cost is only $100 for the entire weekend as
well. The cost also cover the same degree as the students, though
their activities and presentation will be different. The program are
designed to address the students and the parents/guardian separately.
Again, they are also responsible only for logistic to Rochester, NY so
they can have the opportunity to participate, meet peer and learn how
realistically their children’s future are within their grasp!

AGAIN, if transportation or financial burden become an issue, we
offer limited scholarship which can help in more ways than one!

For students, we cover courses that teach engineering, science, arts
and services that we provides, activities that’s available and above
all – we show them that they are not alone in terms of cultural
background and finding a future for themselves.

For parents/guardian, we cover presentations that talk about
financial aids, technology, services that we provides, meeting Deaf
professional and above all – we show them that they too, are not
alone in terms of cultural background and finding a future for their
children.

In short, I hope that you may take the time to consider this program
– to share with your students and parents that you feel they will
benefits greatly from this program and to help them make this happen!
The deadline for application is June 15th but I want to encourage you
all the apply early and start looking forward to a wonderful weekend
that is yet to come!

As always, you can contact me for any questions or concerns.

I thank you for your time and consideration!
