Position Title Interpreter- American Sign Language – (Multiple Positions)
\nAdvertised Location: Lone Star College-CyFair & Fairbanks Center
\nHiring Range Starting salary commensurate with education and experience.<\/p>\n
This is a full-time 10.5-month position.
\nPosition Summary Interprets for Deaf\/Hard of Hearing students as they interface
\nwith Lone Star College System faculty, staff, and the community in a variety of
\nenvironments. Encourage the enhancement of deaf culture awareness among faculty,
\nstaff, and administrators. Strive to advance in sign language skill proficiency
\nin order to provide the highest level of interpreter services possible. Support
\nand promote all students’ right to equity in the classroom.<\/p>\n
Position Status Full-time<\/p>\n
Essential Job Functions Interprets for faculty and students in the campus and
\nclassroom setting.
\nInterprets for students, staff, faculty, and administration at various college
\nfunctions and events throughout the year, both on-campus and off-campus.<\/p>\n
Communicates with and gathers information from faculty in order to effectively
\nprepare for classroom sessions for both faculty and students.<\/p>\n
Encourages the enhancement of deaf culture awareness among faculty, staff, and
\nstudents.<\/p>\n
Assists the Manager of Interpreters and Captionists with various
\nresponsibilities.<\/p>\n
Supports and promotes all faculty and students’ rights to equity in the
\nclassroom and work environment.<\/p>\n
Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned.<\/p>\n
Required Qualifications\/Education Campus Specific Associate’s degree or higher
\nwith at least 2 years of related work experience; will consider equivalent
\ncombination of education and experience in lieu of degree.<\/p>\n
DARS\/BEI Levels I-V or Basic, Advanced, Master level.
\nRID CI, CT, CSC.
\nNIC, NIC Advanced, or NIC Master.
\nKnowledge, Skills, Abilities: Working knowledge of deafness, deaf culture and
\nthe deaf community.<\/p>\n
Good written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
\nAbility to set interpreting boundaries in order to avoid overuse and repetitive
\nmotion injuries in the hands, arms, neck, and back.<\/p>\n
Demonstrated ability to provide dynamic and proactive educational leadership.<\/p>\n
Proven effectiveness in allocating and managing resources<\/p>\n
Ability to work a flexible schedule.<\/p>\n
Ability to set interpreting boundaries in order to support interpreters.<\/p>\n

A thorough knowledge of Deafness, Deaf Culture and the Deaf community.<\/p>\n
Excellent interpersonal, supervisory skills and written and oral communication

\ntechnical and organizational skills and problem solving ability.<\/p>\n
Ability to articulate proficiently in American Sign Language as well as a
\nworking ability of other prevalent sign systems.<\/p>\n

Preferred Qualifications\/Education Associate’s degree in an Interpreter Training Program or related field.
\nDARS\/BEI Level II.
\nBachelor’s degree.
\nExperience interpreting in a post-secondary educational environment.
\nCommunity college experience.<\/p>\n
