The ESOL program for Deaf & Hard of Hearing students at ACC is going strong! Below are several important announcements that will help you plan for the 2009-2010 academic year:<\/p>\n
1. Registration for the 2009 Fall Semester is going on N-O-W! If you are interested in improving your English and Math skills, taking classes for transfer to 4-year programs, upgrading your job skills or getting your GED, come by the ACC-Riverside campus and sign up soon! Fall classes begin August 24th, but if you wait too long, the popular classes will be full! <\/p>\n
2. If you are a new student, please see the “Six Easy Steps to ACC” attached above, and bring ALL required documents with you to save time when you come to register.<\/p>\n
3. This Fall we are offering a series of eleven (11) ESOL classes focused on improving Reading\/Vocabulary and Writing\/Grammar skills, that once completed, will enable students to take college-level credit courses in their majors. A “Transition to College” course – HUDE 0111 is offered to help new students learn important time management & study skills, and includes numerous self-assessments that help identify personality type, learning style, and career preferences. The ESOL & HUDE classes are taught by four (4) Deaf and two (2) hearing Instructors, and the ACC Tutoring Lab at Riverside boasts three (3) Deaf and two )2) hearing tutors, all fluent in ASL. There is also a Basic Math class ? MATD 0330 ? that is taught by a hearing instructor in ASL.<\/p>\n
4. The GED Program for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students starts again August 24th. These classes are fully accessible and have both a teacher fluent in sign language as well as an ASL Interpreter. 5. ACC is happy to announce a NEW Deaf Services Certificate Program! This 3-semester program will give students the skills to apply for entry level work in school and agencies that serve deaf persons. See the attached certificate information above.<\/p>\n
6. ASL-American Sign Language III and IV are now accepted as one of the Humanities classes requirements under the State Core Curriculum plan. These classes transfer to any Texas public college or university. ASL already counts as a Foreign Language in many high schools and public colleges and universities.<\/p>\n
