She was born in Fredericskburg, Texas October 12, 1961.

She lived in Fredericksburg through her school years and then spent 3 years at Texas A & M University. She taught herself sign language from a book and began her interest in sign by signing to music, and she loved it. During a summer break from A & M, she got a position working with hearing impaired and multi-handicapped individuals and trained them in the area of yard work and how to clean office buildings. She signed on stage at Aquafest in Austin for many years and was on stage with the Four Tops, Willie Nelson and Gary P. Nunn, to name a few. She loved all kinds of music, but her favorite was Christian hymns and praise music.

Marilyn decided to make a career out of working with the hearing impaired and became a sign language interpreter. She held Texas Level III Interpreter and Court Interpreter Certification. She was bestowed the honor of life time member of TSID, Texas Society of Interpreters for the Deaf. She Served at the TSID treasurer for 10 years and many more years on committees. She established the TSID Don England Trust/Scholarship Fund and was instrumental in establishing the organizations financial stability. She truly loved her work as an interpreter and cherished the deaf community.

She loved the Lord, family and friends and was the kind of friend that loved deeply and stirred that love in others as well. She enjoyed crafts, scrapbooking and genealogy and got her family’s reunion organized in 1995; and they have not missed one since.

She was preceded in death by her father “Buster” Moffett and is survived by her mother, Jean, Mrs. Buster Moffett, one sister and her husband, Cheryl and Phil Rowton, one brother, Michael Lewis Moffett, 2 nieces and spouse, Avery and Jesse Perez and Tamara Joy Rowton and 2 nephews and spouse, Levi and Rhonda Moffett and Christopher Lewis Moffett.

Marilyn was wise beyond her years and lived her life with joy, laughter, and integrity inspiring others along the way.

Marilyn’s Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday August 29th, 2009 at Hope in the City, 4407 Monterey Oaks Blvd. in Austin TX 78749

Memorials can be made to
Hill Country Memorial Hospital Hospice
P.
