FANS AWAIT TEXAS SCHOOL FOR THE DEAF\u2019S HOMECOMING CELEBRATION<\/p>\n
Austin, Texas \u2013 September 18, 2009 Homecoming at the Texas School for the
\nDeaf (TSD) is still the most cherished tradition celebrated at the 152
\nyear-old public school.<\/p>\n
Today\u2019s pep rally at 1:00 pm caps off Spirit Week at TSD – when the high
\nschool class who has demonstrated the most spirit throughout the week takes
\nownership of the coveted Spirit Award for the 2009-2010 school year \u2013 and
\nofficially kicks-off TSD\u2019s pre-game festivities that will bring over 2,500
\nfans to the south Austin campus over the weekend.<\/p>\n
An exciting, live drama performance Friday evening includes TSD students and
\nDeaf community members appearing on-stage for TSD\u2019s third joint production
\nwith DeafACT, Inc., \u201cFriday Night Live\u201d (FNL). Led by Morgan Campbell, TSD
\nSenior from Keller Texas, FNL is a hilarious, comedic variety show full of
\nskits and music, modeled after NBC\u2019s popular Saturday Night Live. “After
\nworking with Morgan during the Grease production and now FNL, I can tell you
\nthat she is one to watch. If she wants to, she could definitely go on to
\nbecome an actress or comedic star,” says Don Miller, director of tonight\u2019s
\nFNL. Miller is a professor at Austin Community College (ACC), and has
\nextensive experience in various community theater productions, both as actor
\nand director. \u201cI’m thrilled with the talent we have, Miller adds, \u201cwe will
\nalso pay homage to Michael Jackson and have included some of his most well
\nknown songs in the line-up.\u201d<\/p>\n
Saturday night, TSD – at 1102 South Congress Avenue – hosts rival,
\nCalifornia School for the Deaf (CSD)-Fremont on the gridiron, at 5:30 pm,
\nwhere TSD\u2019s 2009 Homecoming court will be crowned during half-time.<\/p>\n
All day, prior to the anticipated matchup, and rooted in long-standing TSD welcomes the public to join us for all homecoming activities. \ntradition, students, families, friends, alumni, as well as the opposing
\nrivals and fans will converge on TSD\u2019s campus to celebrate together at the
\nHomecoming Festival. From 10:00 am-4:30 pm Saturday, food booths,
\nactivities and vendors will line the campus mall \u2013 including a fundraiser
\nfor TSD\u2019s Special Needs students where you can smash a junk car that will be
\npainted in the visiting team\u2019s colors. The car is courtesy of TSD neighbors,
\nAustin Express Towing and Austin Express Auto Parts. Also at the festival,
\nthe TSD Alumni Association\u2019s long-awaited TSD history book will be available
