One important<br \/>\nproject will demonstrate true global citizenship, with the group conspiring<br \/>\nto give back to the central Texas community by joining the Austin Empty Bowl<br \/>\nProject to end hunger, which benefits the Capital Area Food Bank.<\/p>\n<p>Representatives from participating schools compete Friday night in the<br \/>\nJunior NAD Pageant, when Mr. and Miss. Junior NAD 2009-2010 will be crowned.<\/p>\n<p>Other highlights include an Austin Scavenger Hunt for the group Thursday<br \/>\nevening, and a special banquet Saturday night at the Hyatt Regency Austin.<\/p>\n<p>Claira Oberrender, TSD Senior and current President of TSD\u2019s Junior NAD<br \/>\nchapter, opens the conference today at 3:00 pm along with Juan Munoz, TSD\u2019s<br \/>\nJunior NAD Vice President. \u201cStudents often feel they do not have a voice on<br \/>\ncurrent issues,\u201d Oberrender notes. \u201cBy being a part of Junior NAD,\u201d she<br \/>\nadds, \u201cwe are given opportunities that build our confidence and encourage us<br \/>\nto stand up and be heard on any important and controversial matters.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Students will hear from various leaders from the deaf community throughout<br \/>\nthe  conference,  including Dr. Gertrude S.
