Family, friends, parents, professionals, etc.)<\/p>\n<p>Do it Yourself!<br \/>\nKnow your rights!<br \/>\nHow to get an interpreter<\/p>\n<p>Saturday, November 21, 2009<br \/>\n1:00 to 3:00pm<\/p>\n<p>Freed-Montrose Neighborhood Library<br \/>\n(Conference room \u2013 upstairs)<br \/>\n4100 Montrose<br \/>\nHouston, Texas 77006<\/p>\n<p>The Speaker<\/p>\n<p>Brian Determan, an ASL-native deaf individual, serves as a Deafness Resource<br \/>\nSpecialist  with  Communication  Axess  Ability  Group for Houston and<br \/>\nsurrounding counties.  The Deafness Resource program is funded by TX DARS<br \/>\n(Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services) &#8211; Office for Deaf and<br \/>\nHard of Hearing Services.  Brian works with agencies and service providers<br \/>\nregarding their access obligations under the Americans with Disabilities Act<br \/>\nand  the Rehabilitation Act. His training will empower deaf or hard of<br \/>\nhearing  individuals  with  knowledge of their civil rights and how to<br \/>\nself-advocate.<\/p>\n<p>Accommodations for participants such as real time captioning (C.A.R.T.) or<br \/>\nsign to voice interpreter services must be requested by Wednesday, November<br \/>\n18, 2009 by noon.
