Burial: Greenwood Memorial Park. Visitation: 1 to 3 p.m. Friday. <\/p>\n<p>Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Goodrich Center for the Deaf, 2500 Lipscomb St., Fort Worth, Texas 76110. <\/p>\n<p>Born Retha Isla Smoot in Grimes County on Sept. 26, 1913, to Oliver Hugh and Mary Myrtie Smoot, Retha resided in Houston for many years before moving to Fort Worth in 1960. She was an accomplished seamstress, making her own clothes for most of her life. She was also an expert leather worker, employed by Roy Smith Boots, L. White Boots (now Leddy&#8217;s) and Justin Boots. She performed the delicate stitchery on the sides of handmade western boots, including a pair made for Roy Rogers. She was well known in the deaf communities of Dallas and Fort Worth, and was a longtime Baptist.
