SAN ANTONIO \u2014 Four people have died following a house fire in San Antonio.<\/p>\n
While officials have not determined the cause of Friday’s fire, they know it started in the kitchen, possibly sparked by a space heater.<\/p>\n
The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s office identified two of the victims: 47-year-old Rosa Bustos and her 5-year-old granddaughter, Samantha Medina, who both died Friday.<\/p>\n
Two others died on Friday as well, but their names have not been release by the medical examiner.<\/p>\n
Julio Bustos said that he, his wife and their granddaughter were asleep in their bedroom when Samantha awoke to dogs barking. Julio Bustos is deaf, as was his wife. Waking her grandparents, the three tried to escape. But when Julio Bustos reached the front door, the other two had collapsed inside.<\/p>\n
“I have nothing,” his stepson, 21-year-old Fernando Ramirez interpreted as the man looked at the charred remains of his home on Saturday. “It’s hard for me to breathe.”<\/p>\n
“He thought she was behind him,” Ramirez said. “But they got stuck.”<\/p>\n
Ramirez, who also lives at the home, was working an overnight shift loading equipment. His girlfriend, 20-year-old Concepcion Garza, managed to flee the house.<\/p>\n
