Spotter training is conducted annually by the National Weather Service.<\/p>\n

The conference is free and open to the public; no pre-registration required.<\/p>\n

Who are SKYWARN storm spotters?<\/p>\n

Amateur radio operators make up the backbone of the SKYWARN spotter network.
\nIn some communities and counties, law enforcement and fire officials serve
\neffectively as storm spotters. Public utilities workers, electric and
\ntelephone crews, and city\/county employees may also serve as storm spotters,
\nalong with interested members of the general public. This is an excellent
\nopportunity to have your law enforcement, fire, dispatchers, city\/county
\nworkers, Community Emergency Response Teams, and interested citizens trained
\nin how to spot severe weather in your community.<\/p>\n
