Deaf Children in Nigeria<\/strong><\/p>\n

Last summer I had the opportunity to visit in Nigeria with members of my
\nchurch and others. While there, I visited the Kwara School for Special
\nNeeds which is a residential school for blind, deaf and mentally handicapped
\nchildren. I immediately fell in love with the deaf children that I met and
\nsaw the tremendous need for helpers\/ teachers even for a few weeks for the
\nmany deaf kids there. I don’t know how many, but there were far too many to
\nonly have two teachers for all of them. I also noticed that they did not
\nhave one book or any school supplies that the kids in the US take for
\ngranted. I have contacted publishing companies for the blind and they have
\nsent quite a few books for the blind kids and I am collecting and buying
\nbooks for the deaf kids now.<\/p>\n

I am looking for a few people who are qualified and able to go back with me
\nthis summer for approximately 3 weeks to help the teachers there. I am a
\ncertified teacher of special ed in Texas and have tutored deaf students at
\nCSUN and have been an interpreter aide at the Regional Day School in Irving.
\nIf anyone would be interested in collecting or giving books for these kids
\nwho range in age from 5 – 20 years please let me know. If anyone would
\nconsider going please also let me know. Thank you.<\/p>\n

This would be a great idea you are a Christian and would be interested in
\ngoing this next summer with me to work with the kids that they can email me
\nand we can discuss it. They would have to provide their expenses through
\nraising support from their churches, friends and family. Thank you and I
\nknow the kids in Nigeria will be excited to know that other deaf people in
\nthe US were interested in them.<\/p>\n
