Volunteer Interpreting Services Now Available
\nfrom Austin Community College<\/strong><\/p>\n

Austin Community College is proud to announce the availability of
\nvolunteering interpreting services. Interpreting students at Austin
\nCommunity College will offer volunteer interpreting services for events
\nwhere professional interpreters are not provided. All requests are reviewed
\nby ACC department faculty.<\/p>\n

Please make your request at least two weeks in advance of the event and
\ninclude all the following information:<\/p>\n

Date
\nLocation
\nStart and finish time
\nWhat is the event?<\/p>\n

How can we contact you? We need your e-mail address or phone number.<\/p>\n

The best way to make a request for a student interpreter is by e-mail to:<\/p>\n

Students are available to provide volunteer interpreting services only if
\nthey are not in classes and will attend all events in a team of two. A
\nstudent will reply to your message within two-three days so you know we have
\nreceived your request.<\/p>\n

All requests for volunteers will be checked by department faculty. Students
\nprovide free interpreting service to help them learn how to interpret and
\nwork with deaf people in the community. Your requests to have students
\ninterpret for you helps prepare them to be skilled professional
\ninterpreters.<\/p>\n

Students cannot provide interpreting service at any assignment which has
\nfunding available to pay professional interpreters. We also cannot provide
\nservice for the following settings:<\/p>\n

Legal
\nMedical
\nMental Health
\nPolice interviews
\nIf you are not sure if your request is appropriate for students, please send
\nit to us and we will let you know if it’s possible for students to attend.<\/p>\n

Examples of the kind of events where students provide interpreting include:<\/p>\n

Family reunions
\nVariety of Sporting events or lessons
\nCo-op housing meetings
\nBible study groups
\nCub Scouts, etc.
\nDeaf children’s activities
