(Dec. 19, 2006) — Today, CSDVRS announces David Hahn has come on board as the new vice president of product development. CSDVRS is a newly formed company, a spin-off from CSD. The new entity incorporates all aspects of CSD’s former Video Relay Services (VRS) and related products.

Hahn has nearly 20 years experience in the field of product and technology engineering. He began his career as a software engineer at Novell, and after working with several telecom startups, he spent six years with Efficient Networks (later acquired by Siemens) as a senior engineering manager, and most recently one year as the vice president of engineering for Viseon. At Efficient Networks/Siemens, Hahn managed engineering teams that designed, created and supported broadband networking equipment, shipping over one million units per quarter its peak and helping to make Efficient Networks/Siemens into the number one world-wide provider of DSL CPE.

“I am excited to work with the new spin-off company that has provided decades of service to the deaf and hard of hearing community,” said Hahn. “CSDVRS will improve and expand the communication options and services available to the community at a ferocious rate!”

This will be Hahn’s first exposure to working with deaf or hard of hearing people, an experience he is embracing.

“While my interaction with the deaf community has been limited until now, the people that I have met are warm, accepting, gregarious, and generally wonderful,” said Hahn. “I look forward to continuing and deepening my relationship with the community and better understanding their communication needs.”

VRS offers the nation’s 28 million deaf and hard of hearing individuals the ability to communicate using sign language when making telephone calls. With CSDVRS, a caller using sign language can communicate via a Video Interpreter (VI) by using a video connection. The VI signs the telephone conversation with the sign language user and voices to the hearing person using a standard telephone. Video relay is comparable to Voice Over Internet Protocol services and is free to all users requiring only a personal computer and a Web camera or a television and set-top video box along with high-speed Internet connectivity such as DSL or a cable modem.

CSDVRS can still be accessed by anyone, whether deaf or hearing, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Connect to CSDVRS by any of the following:

Website: www.csdvrs.com
Voice: (866) 926-8877 or (866) WANT-VRS
VP: csdvrs.tv

“One of the best science fiction authors of all time, Arthur C. Clarke, said ‘The only way to discover the limits of the possible is to go beyond them into the impossible.’ That is what we plan to do with CSDVRS.”

More announcements on upcoming plans will be shared in the near future.
