Community Outreach Request for Interpreters – Houston<\/strong><\/p>\n

Wanted: Qualified Interpreters who are willing and able to donate some time
\nto a good cause. Please see the email below my signature, and the attached
\nflier about two Hurricane Recovery events that have been specifically
\nplanned to reach out to Deaf and hard of hearing individuals. The two
\nevents are scheduled for Friday afternoons & evenings and Saturdays, March
\n19 \u2013 20 (at Woodhaven Baptist Deaf Church in Houston) and March 26-27 (at
\nthe Baytown Community Center).<\/p>\n

The agencies sponsoring this event have arranged for several certified
\ninterpreters to be present, but no one is sure how great the need will be
\nfor interpreters on the days of these events. There will be an exhibit area
\nwith vendors and exhibitors where they would like to have plenty of
\nqualified interpreters assisting with communication and providing a
\nwelcoming environment to individuals that arrive at the event.<\/p>\n

If you are willing and able to donate some time interpreting at either of
\nthe events listed on the attached flier, your assistance will be greatly
\nappreciated. If you plan to attend, or would like more information, please

Neighborhood Centers Inc.\u2019s Stay Connected Texas program will host two Ike
\nRecovery Fairs for the Deaf and Hearing Impaired community (see attachment).
\nIf you still have ongoing needs caused by Hurricane Ike and live in Harris
\nCounty, Neighborhood Centers Inc. may be able to assist you. NCI\u2019s program
\nprovides disaster case management which helps families and individuals
\ndevelop a plan for recovery and achieve pre-disaster levels of stability.<\/p>\n

Ongoing needs for which assistance may be available include:<\/p>\n

* Home Repair (roof, siding, sheetrock, etc.)
\n* Mental health assistance (counseling, support groups)
\n* Furniture (bed, sofa, lamps, dining room set)
\n* Appliances (stove, refrigerator, washer\/dryer)
\n* Job related expenses (Job loss, training, tools, etc.)
\n* Disconnect utilities notices<\/p>\n

*If you have any of the needs listed above, we may be able to assist you.<\/p>\n
