Fr. Tom Coughlin to say Mass in Austin
On this coming Sunday at 3:00 PM, October 5, Fr. Tom Coughlin will say Mass for the Austin Deaf Catholics and out-of-towners who plan to attend the upcoming annual TSD Homecoming events the day before. Prior to Mass at St. Ignatius in the Mother Chapel on the corner of Oltorf Street and South Congress, Brother Andrew Sanchez, also of San Antonio, will give a special presentation to the Deaf Catholics and friends at the Family Center of St. Ignatius at 2:00 PM.
Fr. Coughlin is a member of the Order of St. Dominic, and Brother Sanchez also belongs to the Dominican Missionaries for the Deaf. Every Sunday the latter presents Bible study classes at St. Ignatius to interested adults at 10:15 a.m. In addition to Austin, Fr. Coughlin, the first ordained deaf Catholic priest in North American 42 years ago, says Mass in San Antonio and Corpus Christi. Next Masses by Fr. Coughlin at St. Ignatius are scheduled on November 8 and December 13 at 3:00 PM, both are on a Saturday. There will be a meeting and confessions prior to the Mass in the Mother Chapel of St. Ignatius at 1:00 PM.
