About the Play:

THE ARK is a fresh take on a familiar tale; it’s the story of how one family learns to brave life’s rough waters by sticking together. Michael McLean, the renowned composer of more than 20 best-selling albums, gives an incredibly uplifting score, ranging from pop to gospel.

It’s about what happens when a family faces things they’ve been trying to run away from all their lives. Issues they’ve been avoiding. Conflicts they don’t want to talk about…or talk about too much. It’s about learning how to love each other, even when we can’t see things eye to eye. It’s about holding on and letting go. It’s about reconciliation, and forgiveness, and tolerance. It’s about the power of miracles, especially when those miracles don’t come when or how we wished for them, but are miracles just the same.

With a powerhouse cast, songs that’ll have you dancing in the “isles,” and one of the most adventurous stories ever told, THE ARK proves that, just like the waters, the depth of human emotion knows no bounds.

THE ARK was recognized at ASCAP Musical Theatre Workshop with Stephen Schwartz and later developed at the Festival of New Musicals sponsored by the National Alliance for Musical Theatre. Village Theatre in Issaquah, WA, further developed the musical.

Artisan’s Production of THE ARK:

Artisan Center Theater’s production is the first since THE ARK opened off Broadway in November 2005. It is excited to present it to audiences in Northern Texas and to help tweak the material for publication and licensing. They are working with Erik Orton (THE ARK’s New York Producer) on this project, along with Joseph Baker, the music arranger, to make sure the music and script flow together well.
