Assistant Professor/Associate Professor/ Professor (American Sign Language – ASL)
General Description
Provide educational and professional direction for doctoral level students, master’s level students and undergraduate students/ teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Deaf Education/ provide practicum and student teaching supervision for graduate students in Deaf Education/grant writing and research as desired/ serve on departmental, college, and university committees.
Example of Work Performed
1. E – Advise and counsel undergraduate majors in the American Sign Language program.
2. E – Teach undergraduate courses within the American Sign Language program as needs mandate.
3. E – Provide professional commitment to direction of students and the American Sign Language programs with the American Sign Language committee and through research and scholarly activities.
4. E – Serve on departmental, college, and university committees as necessary.
5. E – Conduct research and grant development to meet program needs.
6. E – Provide supervision for ASL students in practicum.
7. E – Meet other day-to-day responsibilities of the faculty position as necessary.
General Qualification Requirements:
Education/License/Credentials: Ph.D. or Ed.D. in American Sign Language, ASL Linguistics or related field highly preferred. Recent graduates and ABDs (All But Dissertation) considered. Preference given to candidates certified by a credible ASL licensing agency.
Experience: Teaching experience and specialization in American Sign Language (ASL). Experience in Bilingual Education (English and ASL). Should have experience working with Deaf students in a K-12 school
program. Should be knowledgeable of current teaching methodology.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Performance and knowledge base appropriate to responsibilities described above.
Physical/Mental Abilities Required: All candidates having the above credentials and skills will be considered. Additionally, candidates must have the:
* Ability to work cooperatively with fellow employees and supervisors
* Ability to come to work in a timely and predictable manner
* Ability to tolerate criticism
* Ability to tolerate stressful conditions
* Ability to follow university policy and procedures
