I am sending this for a volunteer with Wee Rescue which is a group that rescues small dogs (Pekingese, Shih Tzu, and Lhasa Apso) and helps to find good homes for these abandoned animals. For the past eight months she has been the foster mom for a beautiful Pekingese dog named Ms. Chang.
She is about seven years old and happens to be deaf. She is a wonderful, sweet dog but, we are unfortunately having a very hard time placing her with a family. We have found that people have many misconceptions about owning a deaf dog. Though we explain that she is a happy, healthy, smart little dog who has learned to respond to hand signals, facial expressions and body language, people seem to be reluctant to adopt this dog. Ms Chang has been waiting patiently to be adopted into a forever home with a loving caring family. I am hoping that you may be able to help me spread the word among the deaf community and others who may understand her challenges.
If you know of anyone who may be interested in adopting Ms. Chang, there will be a Meet & Greet at the Petco at Research Blvd (183) and Great Hills Trail in Austin, TX on Saturday, August 25th from 10:00am to 12:00pm. At this event prospective adoptive parents can meet Miss Chang and her foster mom.
