DESCRIPTION OF MAJOR DUTIES AND TASKS
Reports to the Department Chair. Provides lab and/or technical
classroom support services to faculty and staff. Tutors American Sign
Language and Interprets students. Maintains lab and/or technical
classroom environment by organizing, cleaning, and preparing
materials and supplies. Organizes, plans, and prioritizes laboratory
activities for designated area. Assists students in use of lab
equipment and facilities. Performs clerical duties including
operating a computer, maintaining records and files, and compiling
data and reports as required. Maintains an inventory of supplies and
materials. Ensures safe laboratory conditions including safe and
secure handling and storage of supplies and equipment. Initiates
purchase requisitions, controls expenditures, prepares cost estimates
for budget recommendation, submits justifications and requests for
capital outlay items, may prepare specifications and analyze bids for
purchases. Operates, installs, maintains, and trouble-shoots
equipment, sets up and configures new equipment. Performs routine
maintenance and repair. Collects data, records, and other information
and submits reports as required.
QUALIFICATION STANDARD
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Experience: Must possess required
knowledge, skills, abilities and experience and be able to explain
and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the
essential functions of the job can be performed.
Required: Two years work experience in related field. Required
knowledge of American Sign Language. Knowledge of laboratory safety
practices. Skill in maintaining an established work schedule.
Effectively using interpersonal and communications skills.
Effectively using organizational and planning skills, including the
use of attention to detail and follow through. Understanding and
following instructions precisely. Handling lab materials precisely
and accurately. Effectively working with a diverse and multicultural
student body. Maintaining confidentiality of work related information
and materials. Establishing and maintaining effective working
relationships. Demonstrating proficiency using standard PC and MAC
office software applications and ASL/IRP specific software.
Preferred: Advanced knowledge of ASL grammar and advanced technical
skills.
EDUCATION
Required: Associates degree in related field, or equivalent
combination of education, training, and experience.
LICENSE
Required: Depending on area of assignment, a valid Texas Driver’s
License may be required
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is routinely performed in a technical laboratory setting and may
include some outside work. May be subject to standing, walking,
sitting, bending, reaching, kneeling, climbing, pushing, and pulling.
Occasional to routine lifting of objects up to 30 pounds.

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
LOCATION: Rio Grande
HOURS: Hours as assigned day/evening/weekend
SALARY: $819-$1,024/Bi-weekly

(ORP). Part-time and Hourly employees participate in the ACC Money
Purchase Plan (ACCMPP) as a retirement program required by federal
law. The ACC Board of Trustees decided in 1981 that ACC employees
would not participate in Social Security.
