Starting Wage: $3,534.30 per month (BEI III or Advanced), $3,906.60
per month (BEI IV), $4,319.70 per month (BEI V or Masters); (salary
based on Interpreter certification status and may be higher based on
skills and/or qualifications; half time will be half the amount
listed above)
Number of Openings: 1 full time and 1 half time or 3 half time

Qualified TSD staff may have the opportunity to earn additional
compensation through supplemental employment activities such as
summer school positions, athletic coaching, academic tutoring,
extracurricular sponsors, and short-term outreach programs.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Under the supervision of the Coordinator of Interpreting Services
performs advanced (senior-level) interpreter work. Work involves
interpreting or translating English into American Sign Language and
American Sign Language into English or other applicable language.
Duties may include but are not limited to interpreting during:
meetings, interviews, counseling, emergencies, staff development,
Governing Board meetings, conferences, student mainstream classes,
out of town assignments, as well as teaching sign language classes.
The position requires flexible hours and the ability to travel to
meet the needs of the students and staff including nights and/or
weekends as required. Must have reliable transportation and be able
to respond and adapt to changing assignments in a prescribed time
frame. Works under limited supervision with considerable latitude for
the use of initiative and independent judgment.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITES

Interprets or translates English into American Sign Language and
American Sign Language into English
Interprets languages within classrooms or other educational
environments for the agency or clients of the agency
Performs specialized translation duties
Performs technical program assistance work
Travels to daily assignments in prescribed time frame
Able to travel to assignments both in and out of state as requested
Expresses Ideas clearly and concisely through sign language, orally,
and in writing
Performs related work as assigned

SUPERVISOR

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent
BEI Level III, IV, V, Advanced or Masters Certification from the
Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services, Board for Evaluation of
Interpreters, or equivalent (Certificate of Interpreting AND
Certificate of Transliterating CI/CT or Comprehensive Skills
Certificate CSC from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf)
Two years interpreting experience with deaf students and/or adults
in any of the following or related areas: platform, business,
technical, classroom, sign-to-voice, medical, counseling
Sign Language: At hire, the applicant must have sign language skills
equivalent to a Signed Communication Proficiency Inventory (SCPI)
level of ADVANCED for BEI III or Advanced Certification, SUPERIOR for
BEI IV, V, or Masters Certification. When applying, the applicant must
submit documentation that the applicant believes substantiates that
the applicant has achieved the proficiency level required at hire.

QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED

Previous experience as an interpreter in an educational setting
Courtroom interpreter certification
BA degree from an accredited university or college
