Successful Settlement of Lawsuit
Last night the City of New Braunfels settled the case brought by
Maria Salinas for failing to provide interpreter services to her when
they came to her home to investigate the death of her fiance.
New Braunfels has agreed to an ADA policy and to call interpreters
when needed in the future. New Braunfels will pay Ms. Salinas an award
of 75,000.
Ms. Salinas and her lawyers at Advocacy, Inc. are hopeful that this
settlement will help other cities understand the importance of
communication and the ADA. Special thanks to Resource Specialist John
Cage at CSD San Antonio for helping Ms. Salinas to initiate the case.
This was a good day for the deaf community and for New Braunfels,
Texas!
