The Texas Relays isn’t the only athletic competition going on in
Austin this weekend.

More than 150 deaf athletes from eight states competed in the first
ever Seeger-Berg Track and Field Classic at the Texas School for the
Deaf Saturday.

One of the organizers said there are athletic competitions for deaf
athletes in other sports, but not for track and field which is why
they set up this event.

“We wanted to set up something where all schools for the deaf could
come for a friendly national competition and get together with them,
give them good self esteem and confidence and also encourage youth
development for the future Olympics,” track and field coach Jesse
Bailey said.

Students from nine deaf schools participated.

Organizers said they hope to make the meet an annual event.
