Want to Become a Teacher of the Deaf?

Project DEED FROM TEXAS WOMAN’S UNIVERSITY Can Train Teachers of the
Deaf Completely Over the Internet and is Looking for Qualified
Individuals to Fund!

The Texas Woman’s University, Department of Communicative Sciences
and Disorders, Deaf Education Program is pleased to announce that we
are in our third year of Project DEED, Project Distance Education in
the Education of the Deaf, a grant from the federal government to
assist those who want to become teachers of the deaf. We are
especially interested in supporting men, minorities, disabled, general
and special education teachers, and deaf trainees (even if they are
receiving some support from the vocational rehabilitation agency in
their state) from across the United States. We may be able to fund the
tuition and books of those who are already certified in a teaching
area, have a high GPA, sign proficiently, and are able to take all
required courses for deaf education certification in a distance
education (DE) format. We will fund a cadre of 8 well-qualified
individuals in the TWU teacher preparation program for teachers of the
Deaf and Hard of Hearing. Those who do not recieve our funding are
welcome to take courses from us as well whether for certification, a
masters, or advancement pay.

If you have any questions please send inquiries to
[email protected]
. We encourage you to read through our application materials
carefully, and complete all sections, so that we can best determine if
you qualify for grant support. Those interested can apply at any
time–the next group of trainees will be chosen in the spring, 2009.
